About us Blue in Green is a design business specializing in the creation and construction of townhouse and brownstone gardens and terraces in New York City and Brooklyn. Our strength lies in our versatility: we create both woodland, naturalistic gardens and traditional, more formal gardens, depending on our clients' preferences. We also provide a range of seasonal and holiday plantings and decorations, as well as indoor gardens that can be catered to any townhouse, apartment, or office space. Naima J Green Naima Green has always had a close relationship to the city garden…a native of Park Slope, Brooklyn, she grew up spending her time after school tending to the ferns, azaleas, and hydrangeas of her small, shady backyard. Summers spent in the Adirondack forests of upstate New York exposed her to a different kind of landscape: that of the Northeast deciduous forest. The juxtaposition of these two landscapes would later lead to a style incorporating both: a tranquil, contemplative, and organic space, entirely separate from the bustling noise and commotion of the city just beyond the garden walls. After graduating a two-year program at the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden, she obtained her title of Horticulturist. The years spent at the Garden instilled a love and fascination for learning about new plants, design ideas, and the technical knowledge necessary for installing high-end gardens. In the spirit of the woodlands, wetlands, and meadows of the Northeast, Naima strives to use as many native plants as possible, or plants that grew here long before the importation of invasive plants from across the oceans. These plants are most suited to our climate, therefore requiring less overall care and appearing more attractive to our local wild pollinators, including birds, butterflies, and dragonflies - increasingly rare sights in our concrete jungle. Always organic, clients can also feel comfortable harvesting veggies and herbs from their gardens throughout the growing season. Every garden has its own personality, and Naima always takes careful time and consideration while working with new clients to discover what it is that will make their garden special, and give it a character of its own.
